Ruins of Kuhna Castle

The Kuhna Castle ( Polish : Pałac w Kunowie ) is the ruin of a castle in Kuhna ( Kunów ), Powiat Zgorzelecki , Poland .

history

The Kuhna estate was owned by the von Gersdorf family before 1390, and from 1538 by the von Warnsdorf family, who had a renaissance castle with a surrounding moat built in 1579. In 1662 the castle was expanded to include a north wing. Later it was owned by those von Holtzendorff and those von Uechtritz, who had the palace rebuilt in baroque style. In 1824 the castle was modernized and, from 1852, redesigned in a neo-Gothic style with window roofs and a crenellated wreath.

After the region fell to the People's Republic of Poland , a PGR was set up on the castle and estate .

architecture

The oldest part of the complex is the two-story castle. In front of it is a tower with a baroque tower, the spire of which was removed after 1945. The columned portal of the castle has a frieze with the family coats of arms of those von Warnsdorf, von Rechenberg, von Schaffgotsch and von Zedlitz. In the tympanum above the portal there is a depiction of vanitas.

There is a chapel to the east of the castle. Near the palace there is a complex of farm buildings, consisting of three outbuildings, a granary and outbuildings. Behind the palace are the remains of the landscape park.
