Jørgen Schmidt

Jørgen Schmidt (born August 3, 1945 in Vester Alling, Norddjurs Kommune , Jutland) is a former Danish cyclist and world champion.

In 1969 Jørgen Schmidt was third in the Danish amateur road championship in road racing . The following year he won the title in the road race of the amateurs at the World Road Championships in Leicester . He was also Scandinavian champion in team time trial and Danish runner-up in road racing. In 1971 and 1975 he was again national runner-up in the individual time trial and in 1971 he won the Tour of Funen .

After the end of his active cycling career, Schmidt opened a bicycle shop in Randers . His whole family is connected to cycling: his daughters Sanne and Lotte were successful cyclists. The junior world champion in the individual time trial from 2011 , Mads Würtz Schmidt , is also related to him.
