Lode Anthonis was a professional racing driver from 1947 to 1962. Like many Belgian professionals, he mainly focused on “fair races” in his home country. His greatest successes were the victories at the Belgian Road Championship in 1951 and at Omloop Het Volk in 1955.

Anthonis, nickname "de Advocaat", was known for his eloquent, decisive manner, but was also feared because he regularly clashed with functionaries. Only at the age of 40 did he end his cycling career and work as a representative in various industries.
