André Defoort

André Defoort (born July 22, 1914 in Harelbeke ; † January 12, 1972 in Beveren-Leie ) was a Belgian racing cyclist .

In 1934 André Defoort won the Amateurs Tour of Flanders . Then he became a professional. In 1937 he won the Paris-Valenciennes race . At the Belgian Road Championships in 1940 he finished seventh, and the following year he won the title.

In 1945 Defoort, known as “roste Foori” because of his red hair, ended his cycling career and opened the “Sportpaleis” café in Beveren-Leie. After his early death at the age of 57, a professional race with his name was held in his hometown until 2004.
