Rik Van Linden

Rik Van Linden (born July 28, 1949 in Wilrijk ) is a former Belgian cyclist .

Rik van Linden started cycling in 1965, his father Jef was also a professional cyclist. In 1968 Rik Van Linden won the Belgian road championship as a junior and achieved 73 victories. In 1969 he won the Tour of Flanders and in 1970 the championship in the track - Omnium A year later he celebrated another 31 victories in the amateur class, in 1970 there were 22.

Van Linden turned pro in 1971 and was successful until the 1970s. His greatest success was winning the green jersey at the Tour de France in 1975 , where he won a total of five times and four stages until 1982. In 1972 he had already taken second place behind Eddy Merckx in this point classification . He won nine stages in the Giro d'Italia and two in the Tour of Spain .

In 1971 and 1973, Rik Van Linden won the Paris – Tours race , 1974 the Giro di Sardegna and 1977 Milan – Turin . In 1977 and 1979 he was also Belgian champion in the derny race . He started 29 times in six-day races and won in Milan in 1977 with Felice Gimondi , with whom he also drove for several years in the Bianchi team .

In 1983 Van Linden resigned from cycling.
