Jacques Esclassan (born September 3, 1948 in Castres ) is a former French cyclist and local politician.

Jacques Esclassan came from a family of craftsmen. He was a professional from 1972 to 1979 and was considered one of the best sprinters of his time. During these years he started a total of seven times in the Tour de France . He achieved his best result in 1977 when he won the green jersey with the best points and finished 27th in the overall standings, in 1978 he came second in the points classification . He has also won five stages.

In addition, he achieved further successes, victories in overall ratings of cycling races and stage victories: He won Paris – Troyes in 1972 , a stage of the Tour de l'Oise in 1973 and a half stage each from Paris – Nice and the Vuelta a España . In 1974 he decided a stage and the overall ranking of the Étoile de Bessèges for himself. In 1975 he again won a stage from Paris – Nice as well as the overall ranking of the Critérium International and two years later the first staging of the Route du Sud race , which he initiated himself. In 1978 he won two more stages from Paris – Nice. At Paris-Camembert he finished second in 1976 and third in 1978. He achieved a total of 57 victories. At the UCI road world championships in 1978 he was tested positive for the stimulating substance coramin , but this was not sanctioned.

In 1979 Esclassan ended his cycling career and opened a bicycle shop in his home town of Castres. He also went into politics, was from 1997 to 2002 as a member of the Parti socialiste Deputy Mayor of Castres and a member of the Conseil général . He continued to be actively involved in cycling and cycling and, among other things, introduced free municipal bicycle rental.
