Robert James Miller

Robert James Miller (born October 14, 1983 in Harrisburg , Pennsylvania , USA ; † January 25, 2008 in Kunar , Afghanistan ) was a staff sergeant in the United States Army who was fatally wounded during a mission in the war in Afghanistan and was awarded the medal posthumously of Honor , the US armed forces’s highest honor for valor.

Robert James Miller was born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, but grew up in Wheaton , Illinois . There he attended Wheaton North High School and graduated in 2002. After a year in college , Miller joined the US Army in 2003 . After basic training, Miller took the Special Forces Qualification Course . He completed his training in the elite Special Forces unit on September 30, 2005 and was assigned to the 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne) in Fort Bragg , North Carolina .

From August 2006 to March 2007 Miller was stationed in Afghanistan for the first time. His second term of service in Afghanistan began in October 2007. Miller was killed in a skirmish with the Taliban near the border with Pakistan on January 25, 2008. Because of his bravery that day, Miller was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor.
