The Stadio Comunale Renzo Barbera is the municipal football stadium in the Italian city ​​of Palermo in Sicily . It is the home ground of the football club FC Palermo (formerly US Palermo ) and holds 36,349 spectators.

history

The facility was inaugurated in 1932 under the name Stadio Littorio with the game US Palermo against Atalanta Bergamo and replaced the Stadio Ranchibile . In 1936, the venue was renamed Stadio Michele Morrone in honor of a war hero .

After the Second World War , it was renamed Stadio La Favorita again. The stadium was rebuilt and expanded for the 1990 World Cup . The venue was given its current name on September 18, 2002: it was renamed Stadio Renzo Barbera after the ex-president of US Palermo, Renzo Barbera (1970–1980) .
