Wandering of words

Word migration was an international tender by the German Language Council to find German words that were accepted in a foreign language area, often with a new meaning.

The announcement in the form of a competition took place from June 1 to September 30, 2006. The word hike was supported by, among others, Duden , the Goethe Institute and the Institute for German Language and is part of the project The Power of Language .

Another competition organized by the Goethe Institute and the German Language Council was looking for the best immigrant word and creative reasons until February 29, 2008 : A jury, including Loriot, chose the words clumsy , currywurst and angel for the first three places from among 3500 entries from 45 countries - The award ceremony was on April 25, 2008 in the Bode Museum in Berlin.
