The Töölön kisahalli ( German  Töölön sports hall ) is a multi-purpose hall in the Töölö district of the Finnish capital Helsinki .

history

The hall was designed by the architects Aarne Hytönen and Risto-Veikko Luukkonen and opened in 1935 as Messuhalli ( German  exhibition hall ).

The hall on the north side was expanded for the 1952 Summer Olympics . During the games, competitions in gymnastics , boxing , wrestling and weightlifting as well as the final of the basketball tournament took place.

In June 1966 the hall was almost completely destroyed by a fire. The fire was extinguished by deploying 175 firefighters and the army.

In 1975 the hall became the property of the city and was renamed to its current name. The hall is now home to Torpan Pojat and the Helsinki Seagulls .
