The Helsingin uimastadion ( German  Helsinki swimming stadium ) is a swimming stadium in the Finnish capital Helsinki .

history

With the award of the 1940 Summer Olympics to Helsinki, construction of a swimming stadium began in the 1930s. However, because of the Second World War, the games did not take place and the construction work also lasted longer because the pool was used as a store for herrings and vegetables. In 1947 the stadium was finally ready.

In 1952 the Olympic Summer Games took place in Helsinki . During the games, swimming and diving competitions as well as the water polo tournament were held in the stadium .

Today the stadium can be used by the public for swimming. The facility has a 50 meter long swimming pool, a diving pool and a children's pool.
