The Helsingin Velodromi ( Finnish Velodrome Helsinki ) is an open bicycle race track in the Finnish capital Helsinki . It is located in the Pasila district , right next to the Käpylä sports park ( Käpylän urheilupuisto ).

The cycling track was originally built between 1938 and 1940 for the 1940 Summer Olympics , which, however, did not take place due to the outbreak of World War II . The track is made of cement, 400 meters long and offers space for around 7200 spectators, including under a covered grandstand. The track cycling and hockey competitions took place here at the 1952 Olympic Games . It was renewed from 1997 to 2000. Today the track is mainly used for training purposes, as it is no longer approved for international competitions due to its length and safety deficiencies.

American football and lacrosse games are played on the field inside the stadium . The stadium houses the Helsinki Roosters , among others .

The architect of the railway was Hilding Ekelund from Finland . In Docomomo the building is listed as an outstanding example of modern architecture in Finland.
