Söyüncü near Altınordu Izmir (2015)

Çağlar Söyüncü was born in the western Turkish metropolis of Izmir in the Menemen district . He started playing football in the youth of Menemen Belediyespor , the club of his neighborhood. He then played from 2011 for the youth departments of Bucaspor and from 2013 for the youth of Gümüşordu Izmir, the second team of Altınordu Izmir .

In June 2014 Söyüncü received a professional contract with Altınordu, who had been promoted to the second division, and trained with the professional team at the beginning of the second half of the 2014/15 season . On December 3, 2014 he made his professional debut in the cup match against Bayburt Grup İl Özel İdare GS .

For the 2016/17 season he was signed by Bundesliga club SC Freiburg , for whom he made his debut on August 20, 2016 in a 4-0 win in the first round of the DFB Cup at SV Babelsberg 03 . After initial difficulties at the sports club, especially due to a reckless style of play, Söyüncü quickly became a top performer in the Freiburg defense chain. That is why the young defensive player attracted the interest of well-known clubs such as FC Bayern Munich , Manchester City and Atlético Madrid . According to media reports, he was even about to sign with Arsenal FC .

In August 2018, Söyüncü finally moved to Leicester City in the English Premier League for 21.1 million euros , where he received a five-year contract. With this transfer fee, Söyüncü became the record departure of the Breisgauer . In Leicester it was difficult for the Turkish to integrate into the team and so he only made 6 appearances in his first season on the island and was even transferred to the U23 team in the meantime. As one of the reasons, coach Claude Puel named the central defender's poor knowledge of English , which made communication with his teammates difficult.

National team

Söyüncü began his national team career in April 2014 with a mission for the Turkish U18 national team . From May 2015 he played for the Turkish U19 national team . In the same year he made his debut for the Turkish U20 and U21 national team .

In November 2015 Söyüncü was nominated for the first time for the squad of the Turkish national team as part of a test match by national coach Fatih Terim , but remained without a commitment. In March 2016, Terim nominated him again for the squad of the Turkish national team in two test matches. In the match against the Swedes in Antalya , he came on for Volkan Şen in the 90th minute and made his international debut . Söyüncü was not taken into account for the 2016 European Championship in France .
