Matthew Lee "Matty" James (born July 22, 1991 in Bacup ) is an English football player . He has been under contract with the English first division club Leicester City since 2012 .

Manchester United

The from the youth academy of Manchester United Matty James moved on February 5, 2010 on loan to the second division Preston North End . Just a day later, he made his professional debut in a 2-1 home win over Sheffield United , scoring his first goal in the tenth minute of the game. By the end of the 2009/10 Football League Championship , he played another seventeen league games before returning to United. On July 2, 2010, Preston signed the junior player on loan for the entire new season. After ten league games in the 2010/11 season , Alex Ferguson called Matty James as well as Ritchie De Laet and Joshua King back to Manchester early because the bottom of the table had dismissed his son Darren Ferguson as coach.

Leicester City

On May 15, 2012, James moved to the second division Leicester City together with his teammate Ritchie De Laet . In the Football League Championship 2012/13 James (24 league games / 3 goals) reached the play-offs with Leicester thanks to a win on the last matchday at Nottingham Forest . There the club failed in the semifinals under dramatic circumstances at Watford FC .

English national team

With the English U-19 national team, 17-year-old Matty James took part in the U-19 European Football Championship 2009 in Ukraine. The James used in the first two preliminary round matches reached the final of the tournament with his team, but remained in the 2-0 defeat against the hosts without use.
