Career

Tobias Levels at Borussia Mönchengladbach 2008

Levels began his career with his hometown club SV St. Tönis . Then he went to KFC Uerdingen , before moving to Borussia Mönchengladbach in July 1999 . At Borussia Levels was initially used regularly in the U-23 (amateurs) with whom he was promoted to the Regionalliga Nord in the 2005/06 season .

During the preparation for the 2006/07 season, Levels took part in the professional training for the first time and was ordered to appear on the official team photo by Mönchengladbach head coach Jupp Heynckes . On September 10, 2006, he made his debut in the DFB Cup game against SV Roßbach in the licensed team. On September 30, 2006 Levels gave his Bundesliga premiere in the away game at Werder Bremen (0: 3), in which he was substituted in during the second half. Two game days later he was in the starting line-up for the first time in the game against VfL Wolfsburg (3-1) and played for the entire 90 minutes. Levels scored his first Bundesliga goal on March 7, 2009 in a 4-1 win against Hamburger SV .

For the 2011/12 season Levels was loaned to local rivals Fortuna Düsseldorf . He became a regular player as a right full-back and won the autumn championship of the 2nd Bundesliga undefeated with Fortuna in the 2011/12 season. After Fortuna's promotion to the Bundesliga, Levels was firmly committed to the 2012/13 season. He signed a contract that was valid until June 30, 2014. After Levels caused the 2-1 winning goal for Munich in the home game against TSV 1860 Munich on August 10, 2013 , he was whistled by some of his own fans in the final phase ; a few days earlier in the first round of the DFB Cup against SC Wiedenbrück , he was responsible for the decisive goal. After Levels burst into tears, another part of Fortuna Düsseldorf's supporters reacted to the whistles and chanted his name; the whistles were based on Levels unpopularity due to his past at Borussia Mönchengladbach. Although some other Fortuna players had once played for Gladbach, Levels felt a connection with the club.

After his contract with Fortuna Düsseldorf had not been extended, Levels moved to the second division club FC Ingolstadt 04 after a few months without a club in November 2014 , with whom he was able to celebrate promotion to the first Bundesliga in summer 2015. In the first half of the 2015/16 season Levels was always in the starting line-up for the Ingolstadt team and was not replaced. He only missed one game due to a yellow card suspension.

On March 27, 2017, FC Ingolstadt 04 announced that Levels will play in the U-23 team in the future. The reason for this was a dispute with the trainer, Maik Walpurgis . After Stefan Leitl became Walpurgis' successor as coach at the end of August 2017, Levels became an integral part of the “ Schanzer ” squad again . His contract with FC Ingolstadt 04 ran until the end of the 2017/18 season. Levels ended his active football career in summer 2018 and has lived in Mönchengladbach again since then .
