List of grape varieties |
The white grape variety Moscato Giallo or Goldmuskateller is an autochthonous grape variety of Italy. It could be the earlier known Moscato Sirio variety . It is one of the numerous vines that belong to the large Muscat family . Its cultivation is recommended in the provinces of Bolzano and Trento . It is also approved in the provinces of Padua and Verona , the former provinces of Gorizia , Pordenone and Udine and the metropolitan city of Palermo . In 1999 the area under vines was about 265 hectares . In Germany, the variety was only allowed as an experimental plant until 2017, so the vineyard area is only a few hectares, which are mainly in the Palatinate . The qualities obtained are very promising, so that some companies give the gold muscat good opportunities in the future.
The late ripening variety is susceptible to chlorosis . On the other hand, gold muscatel proves to be somewhat more rot- resistant than yellow muscatel , as the grapes are loose and the grape skin is thick-skinned. The extensive selection of clones over the past 35 years has led to the approval of six clones with the names RAUSCEDO 1, VCR 5, VCR 102, ISV-V 5, ISV-V 13, VCR 100. In terms of taste, the variety has a distinctly fruity nutmeg note with a mostly refreshing acid structure . The wines are aged both dry and with residual sweetness .
