The Tamme staadion is a football stadium with an athletics facility in the Tammelinnn district of the Estonian city of Tartu . It holds 1,600 visitors in its grandstands. The Tamme staadion is the home ground of the football clubs JK Maag Tammeka Tartu and Tartu SK 10 . The stadium complex also includes various sports halls, basketball fields, a tennis facility and, in winter, an ice rink .

history

The original sports park was designed in 1928 by the architect Arnold Matteus. The work was completed in 1932. In 1936 a grandstand was added. Since then, the stadium has been used for the first division matches of the Estonian football league . From 1945 to 1955 in particular, numerous international athletics competitions took place in the Tamme Stadium, as well as some Estonian singing festivals .

In the 1960s, the facility was extensively renovated and reopened in 1973. A major fire destroyed large parts of the stadium complex in 1997, which one year later led to a new building by the architects Andres Siim and Kristel Ausing. In 2007 and 2008 extensive renovation work took place, which cost around 14 million EEK (approx. 900,000 euros). The Tamme stadium now meets the requirements of the IAAF .
