Trimming

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Edging is the gradual removal of mature wood: It is removed in the form of narrow strips at the edge of a forest. This is done for the release of young wood (blending hems) or as a narrow clear cut (hems). Usually one works from north to south, so that the rejuvenation is better protected from excessive solar radiation or storms (main storm direction in Germany is south-west).
