The Magnolia Warbler ( Setophaga magnolia , Syn .: Dendroica magnolia ) is a small bird in the family of the Wood Warbler (Parulidae). It got its name from Alexander Wilson , who found the first magnolia warbler he saw under some magnolia trees in Mississippi . However, their breeding grounds are often found in the coniferous forests of North America , from Canada to New England and the Great Lakes . In winter he moves to Central America . It is also a rare guest in Western Europe .

The male's face is black. A white stripe runs over the eyes to the ears. The head and neck area are gray. From the throat down over the stomach area to the back it has a yellow plumage that is streaked with black stripes from the chest down and on the flanks. The top is black-gray to gray. There are large white spots on the wing covers. A white band runs over the tail feathers. The small beak is black, thin and pointed. The female has a similar appearance, only the plumage is duller overall, the face is greyish and the stripes on the flanks and on the underside are not as pronounced as in the male.

They feed mainly on insects that they find near the ground in bushes or shrubs. Occasionally berries and fruits are also eaten.

The female lays three to five eggs in a bowl-shaped nest, which are hatched over a period of eleven to 13 days. After about eight to ten days, the chicks are fully fledged.
