Kjøbenhavns Boldklub is one of the oldest football clubs outside the UK . The Danish association was founded in Copenhagen on April 26, 1876 . Football has been played since 1879. The first team of the club forms since 1992 together with the first team of Boldklubben 1903 to FC Copenhagen . The junior teams continue to exist separately.

Oldest club in continental Europe?

Kjøbenhavns Boldklub was founded in 1876, but Association Football was not introduced until 1879. In the same year on April 19, the Swiss club FC St. Gallen was founded. However, it is said that there were football clubs earlier , especially in the Swiss Romandie , but they were dissolved again.

The French club Le Havre AC has existed since 1872, but this date is not certain and Association Football is said to have only been introduced there in 1892. Before that, rugby is said to have been played. In Europe there are also many earlier established multi-sport clubs such as TSV 1860 Munich or SSV Ulm 1846 , but their football departments came into being later.

As far as we know today, the Kjøbenhavns Boldklub, together with FC St. Gallen 1879, are the oldest still existing football clubs in continental Europe.
