Aline Zeler (born June 2, 1983 in Libramont ) is a former Belgian soccer player and current coach. From 2005 to 2019 she played for the Belgian national football team , of which she is the record player. With Standard Liège she was multiple Belgian champion and cup winner. In the 2017/18 season she played for RSC Anderlecht and most recently for PSV Eindhoven .

Career

societies

Zeler played for Standard Liège for several years in the highest football league in Belgium, the Eerste Klasse and the BeNe League , the meanwhile joint women's league of the Belgian and Dutch associations. With Liège she won the Belgian championship and the cup several times. For the 2017/18 season she is moving to RSC Anderlecht , for whom she has played before.

At European level, she took part with Liège in the 2011/12 UEFA Women's Champions League , but failed in the round of 32 against Danish champions Brøndby IF . After a 2-0 home defeat, they won 4-3 in Denmark , although they equalized twice but scored one goal too few. In the following season , the sixteenth finals were the final destination, this time against 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam with two defeats (1: 3 and 0: 5). In 2013 they lost only one game against Glasgow City LFC , but the 2-2 win in the second leg of the sixteenth finals was not enough. In the UEFA Women's Champions League 2014/15 they even had in qualifying. At a tournament in Portugal they lost their first game against Atlético Ouriense 0-1. The 10-0 win against Cardiff Metropolitan LFC, in which they scored five goals, and the 1-0 win against ASA Tel-Aviv FC were no use. A year later they qualified again for the sixteenth finals, but against record winner 1. FFC Frankfurt they had no chance with 0: 2 and 0: 6. In 2016 they had to qualify again and failed again: after a 1: 3 against FK Minsk , an 11: 0 against ŽFK Dragon 2014 and the 1: 1 against ŽNK Osijek were not enough to reach the knockout rounds. In addition, Zeler remained without a goal. On June 1st, 2018 she got a contract with PSV Eindhoven . She made 24 appearances in the 2018/19 season. PSV finished the regular season as leaders, but the championship round only ended in third place. This ended her career as a player. On February 4, 2019, she had already received a contract as a trainer for the PSV women's youth team.

National team

On March 12, 2005 she was used by national coach Anne Noe in the 2-0 draw against Ireland for the first time in the senior team . The Belgian association count this game, in which she was substituted on in the second half, but not as her first international match. The KBVB counts as their first international match the first game in the qualification for the 2007 World Cup on August 31, 2005 against Finland , which was lost 3-0 and in which she was in the starting line-up. She was then used in the other qualifying games and scored her first international goal in her fourth and third international match on October 30, 2005 against Poland to make it 2: 3. The Belgians lost all eight qualifying games and were bottom of the group. After completing the qualification, she was able to win a game with the national team for the first time on November 4, 2006. The 4: 1 against Portugal is even listed twice in their game statistics by the KBVB . Things went a little better for the Belgians in qualifying for the European Championship 2009 : Here they were able to win both games against Wales and the home game against Switzerland , making them penultimate in their group. On September 5, 2009 you scored three goals in one game for the first time in a 7-2 win in the friendly against Romania . 15 days later they started qualifying for the 2011 World Cup with a 1-0 win over Wales . But they could only win two of the remaining games. After all, they managed one of the two highest victories in their international history against Azerbaijan 11-0, although Zeler did not score a goal, and they were able to improve by one place in the final accounts and finish third in qualifying. The qualification for the EM 2013 went even better : Although they were "only" third again, they won six games and only lost both games against former European champions and group winners Norway . In addition, they gave up one point each in the goalless draw in Iceland and the 2-2 draw against Northern Ireland , which meant they missed second place and thus the playoffs of the group runners-up. With four qualifying goals, Zeler contributed to the good placement. The qualification for the World Cup in 2015 then meant a stagnation. Although they won again six games and set their own record victory in an 11-0 win against Greece , they lost both games again against Norway. In addition, they lost the neighborhood duel against the Dutch women , who were the best runner-up in the group and qualified for the World Cup for the first time in the playoffs. With ten qualifying goals, Zeler was the best Belgian goalscorer in the qualification and, together with three other players, took tenth place in the European goalscorer list.

In March 2015, she and the team took part in the Cyprus Cup 2015 for the first time, but the Belgians only finished last. The qualification for the EM 2017 finally brought the hoped-for success. In the first qualifying match on September 22, 2015 against Bosnia-Herzegovina , she scored two goals to make it 6-0 and set Femke Maes' record with her 25th international goal . Up until the last day of the match they were in a neck-and-neck race with the English women . Although they then lost the decisive game for the group victory, they had already qualified for the European Championship finals in the neighboring country, which was increased to 16 teams, with a 3-1 win in Serbia one day earlier . In between, they took part in the Algarve Cup 2016 for the first time in March 2016 , where they won against Denmark for the first time and in the end finished fifth with a 5-0 win against Russia . On November 28, 2016, she became the record-breaking Belgian player in a 3-1 win against Denmark with her 85th international match.

In June 2017 she was nominated for the European Championship finals in the Netherlands. While she was previously mainly used in attack, she was the defensive boss at this tournament and led the team in the three group games as captain on the field. After an unfortunate 1-0 defeat in their first game against Denmark, they achieved their first competitive win against Norway with 2-0 in the second group match and thus their first victory at a European Championship finals. In the third group game, they then lost 2-1 to the hosts and later title winners and were eliminated. In a 1-0 win over Portugal , Zeler completed her 100th international match on October 24, 2017.

On June 1, 2019, she played her 111th and last international match in a 6-1 friendly against Thailand.
