The Sparkle is an award that has been given to the most outstanding female soccer player in Belgium since 2015 . The prize was introduced as the successor to the Étoile du football , which was awarded between 2005 and 2009, and is comparable to the Belgian Golden Shoe , which has been awarded every year since 1954 to the most outstanding player in the top Belgian men's football league . In 2017, the Belgian Golden Shoe was first introduced in women's football ; however, the sparkle remained.
The prize is awarded in three different categories: Joueuse , Espoir and Gardienne . In the Joueuse category , the best female field player is honored, in the Espoir category the best young player and in the Gardienne category the best goalkeeper. In 2018, for the first time, the player with the most goals was awarded in the Buteuse category.
As the first title holder stepped Tessa Wullaert in appearance.
