Club career

Davinia Vanmechelen was born on August 30, 1999 and began her club career as a football player at the age of six in the offspring of the lower-class amateur club VC Landen in the city of Landen . After years in the club's youth team, when she was 14, she switched to the offspring of Standard Liège's not far away women's football division in 2013 . There she was provincial champion with her youth team in the 2013/14 season and won the Beker van België U-16 , the Belgian football cup for U-16 teams , in 2014 . In the following season 2015/16 she became champion both with the second team in the second class 1st national and with the first team in the Belgian first class . In the Belgian Women's Football Cup 2015/16, she made it to the quarter-finals with the first combat team, where she lost 1-0 to Lierse SK .

With the championship title, the team qualified for the qualifying group phase of the 2016/17 UEFA Women's Champions League . In this Vanmechelen also came to their missions and retired with the team as second in Group 2 from the current tournament. In the championship, Standard Liège was able to defend its championship title in 2016/17 and ended the season, tied with RSC Anderlecht , but with the better goal difference, again in first place in the table. In the 2016/17 Belgian Cup, Vanmechelen and her team were only eliminated in the semi-finals against RSC Anderlecht. In the Champions League qualifying group phase 2017/18 , which took place in the summer of 2017 , the team again only achieved second place in their group and again dropped out of the competition early; Vanmechelen was no longer part of the squad at this point. In spring, the KRC Genk Ladies announced the commitment of the 17-year-olds at the time. Because of her achievements and her talent, she was awarded a Sparkle in the category "Espoirs" in 2017 .

In the Super League 2017/18, which started in summer 2017, she currently (as of January 23, 2018) with the KRC Genk Ladies occupies a place in the middle of the table. A week later, however, they signed Paris Saint-Germain FC .

In addition to her career as a soccer player, she is training to be a kindergarten teacher.

National team career

Vanmechelen played her first international match for a selection of the Royal Belgian Football Association on March 26, 2014, when she made her debut under Xavier Donnay in a friendly international match of the U-15 national team against her age colleagues from the Netherlands. This was also their only game for the Belgian U-15 team. In May of the same year she took part in an international U-16 tournament in Switzerland , where she contributed two goals to the later 3-1 win in the last game against Ireland. After appearing in three games during the tournament, it was not before she was used in Portugal in three more U-16 international matches for her home country.

In the meantime, she made her debut in October 2014 in the U-17 team, for which she subsequently came to regular appearances. She played two of the three games in the qualifying round for the U-17 European Championship 2015 and, after a friendly against the Scottish women of the same age, was used by Tamara Cassimon in all three games of the elite round of the U-17 European Championship qualification. In the end it was only enough for second place in Group 4, which meant the end for the U-17 juniors. Six months later, she and her team qualified for the U-17 European Championship in 2017 . In this she made herself noticeable as the best goalscorer of the Belgians, as well as one of the best goal scorers of this European Championship qualification. In her first game, a 15-0 victory over the Georgians of the same age, she was able to contribute four goals. After she herself went goalless in the subsequent 1-0 win over Azerbaijan, she scored two goals in the last group match against her colleagues from the Czech Republic, a 4-2 win. After two appearances in friendly international matches against Switzerland in February 2016, in which she scored one goal each, she used Cassimon in all three games of the subsequent elite round. However, the team was unable to prevail and was eliminated from the European Championship qualification as the last of Group 6 without any points.

About six months later, the offensive player was called up for the U-19 national team, where she was used by Kris Van Der Haegen . She played her first international under 19 on September 19, 2016 in a 2-1 victory over her colleagues from Ireland. She then started qualifying for the 2017 U-19 European Championship in October and played in all three games against Lithuania, Belarus and Austria. After three wins, Belgium finished the first qualifying round as group winners and advanced to the elite round. In this, she led the group with the Belgians after she had made two appearances in friendly matches in April 2017, after completing two games. In the last game against the Spanish women of the same age, however, Belgium lost 3-1 and finished the group in second place. For the U-19 women, this meant an early end again.

Vanmechelen was appointed to the Belgian senior national team for the first time just two months after her 16th birthday when Ives Serneels brought her into the extended squad for a group game in the second qualifying round for the 2017 European Championship against Bosnia and Herzegovina . In this, however, she was not used and only made her debut a little over a year later, when Ilves considered her for an international friendly against the Netherlands and she came on shortly before the end of the game. In her next two international appearances against Denmark on November 28, 2016 and France on January 19, 2017, she contributed her first two goals for the senior national team. Before the start of the European Championship , for which the team had successfully qualified, the offensive player had completed eight more international matches and scored one goal during this time. Then she brought Ilves into the 23-strong Belgian team that took part in the European Championship finals in the Netherlands . For Belgium there was an early end in Group A ; as a third party you dropped out of the competition early. Vanmechelen was used in two of the European Championship games, but never played through the full game. In September and October 2017, she also made three more international appearances on the occasion of qualifying for the 2019 World Cup .
