Katja Bornschein (born March 16, 1972 in Jugenheim ) is a former German soccer player .

Club soccer

Bornschein began her career in 1977 at SVS Griesheim. She moved to TuS Griesheim in 1983, played for FCA Darmstadt from 1986 before moving to FSV Frankfurt in 1988 and celebrating her first two cup wins there. In the 1993/94 season followed a one-year guest appearance at SG Praunheim, then it went back to the FSV and the first double in 1995, the cup title defense in 1996 and winning the championship again in 1998. In 1999 Bornschein moved to SC Freiburg , rose with this in 2001 the women's Bundesliga, and was active there until the 2007/2008 season. In the last active year she already took over the coordination of the junior teams, in summer 2008 she was elected by the Bundesliga team alongside Karin Danner (FC Bayern Munich) as the league representative of the women's Bundesliga.

National team

On June 30, 1991 Bornschein made her debut as a national player in Lüdenscheid against China, her second appearance was in the European Championship final against Norway, which the German selection won in extra time. Up until 1997 she was used a total of 37 times and scored two goals (June 28, 1996 against Iceland, August 27, 1996 in the Netherlands). She played her last international match against China on March 20, 1997.
