Chemist Calendar

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The chemist's calendar is a small manual with physical and chemical data. The book, first published in 1880 by Rudolf Biedermann, is after Landolt-Börnstein and the paperback for chemists and physicists the smallest of the three widely used German-language chemical tables. It is mainly aimed at the practical scientist. Despite its name, the chemist's calendar has no calendar function.

The chemist's calendar is updated relatively rarely, so that it does not always reflect the current state of research. Therefore, for example, in the last edition from 1984 there is a small table with logarithms of ten .

content

An introductory part provides information about units of measurement and their conversions, biochemical nomenclature issues and abbreviations, formulas of simple geometric structures and the relative atomic masses of the elements . This is followed by the main part of the book with almost 400 pages, which lists the physical properties of elements, inorganic and organic compounds. This is followed by density tables of gases and liquids commonly used in the laboratory (water, mercury, acids, alkalis, salt solutions, organic solvents), tables with solubilities , vapor pressures and thermodynamic data such as molar heats, normal entropies, enthalpies of formation, etc. The appendix finally provides information on analytical factors, analytical equivalents and much more. The book is completed by a subject index and a fold-out periodic table .
