↑ 3rd league 2019/20 |
The 2019/20 season of the Regionalliga Nord was the 37th season of the Football Regionalliga Nord and the twelfth season of the Football Regionalliga as the fourth-highest division in Germany. It opened on July 26, 2019 and was originally scheduled to end on May 17, 2020. From December 9, 2019 to February 13, 2020, the season was interrupted by the winter break, and then again from March 13 due to the COVID-19 pandemic , which ultimately led to the termination on June 26.
Since the 2018/19 season, a total of four teams from the five regional leagues will be promoted to the 3rd division, this season the champions of the Regionalliga Nord rose directly.
On March 13, 2020, the NFV announced that games in the Regionalliga Nord would initially be suspended until March 17, 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Germany . Afterwards, games in which “fewer than 1,000 spectators are expected” should be played regularly, provided that “the local authorities do not prohibit general football matches”.
On March 16, the association extended the suspension until April 19. The DFB had already announced the decision of the 21 regional associations to suspend the game from the regional league downwards.
According to a decision of the NFV presidium on May 22nd, the game should not be resumed, taking into account the opinion of the 18 participants. This decision was confirmed at an extraordinary association day of the NFV on June 25, 2020. Since there were no relegated athletes, an increased field of participants can be expected for the following season . The association named VfB Lübeck as a sporting climber in the third division , which was leading the table at the time of the cancellation. On June 25, 2020, based on the quotient regulation, he was officially crowned champion of the Regionalliga Nord 2019/20.
