history
The settlement history of Jeddeloh II is closely linked to that of the older Jeddeloh I, to which it also belonged for a long time. Decisive for the development of the place was the common division in the state of Oldenburg that began around 1790 , as a result of which old communal lands such as the surrounding Vehnemoor passed into smallholder ownership. As a result, today's Jeddeloh II was created as the first bog colony of the Edewecht community.
1806 a first settlement attempt was the meanness of the south of Jeddeloh I at the Vehne located Jeddeloher meadows : failed (or "wipe"). In 1828 the plan to settle the Jeddeloher Wiesen was taken up again and approved for one of the applicants, another interested party settled without a permit. In 1838 there were already five peat slabs, z. Partly also without a permit, populated. When the Oldenburg state government perceived these unauthorized settlement activities, some of the illegally erected buildings there were ordered to be demolished.
The settlement was only expanded according to plan after studies had determined that the soil was productive and the construction of a bridge over the Vehne (1843) made it easier for the colonists to relieve their transport needs and enabled schoolchildren to cross the Vehne safely (it was not until 1866 that the young colony its own school was built on today's Wischenstraße, in 1891 a dirt road was expanded as a school path). In 1844, the authorities planned 29 settler sites along today's “Langendamm”, which they wanted to use as a connection route from Jeddeloh (I) to Bösel on the other side of the Vehnemoor. In 1850, 16 settlers were registered on Langendamm and the Jeddeloher Wiesen, in 1860 Langendamm had 11 houses and 71 inhabitants and Jeddeloher Wiesen with 9 and 51 respectively. In 1871 the Langendamm colony had 88 and the Jeddeloher Wiesen colony 91 inhabitants.
The Hunte-Ems Canal , which was completed in 1893 and which cut through the Langendamm, is a defining feature of today's townscape and economic development . The arduous work on the Hunte-Ems Canal gave many Jeddelohern around ten years a welcome opportunity to earn additional income in bad economic times, when many emigrated and emigrated. In Jeddeloh II there was also a canal lock and a folding bridge over the canal, which connected the districts north and south of the canal.
In 1895 Jeddeloh II was raised to the status of an independent peasantry and separated from the old Jeddeloh I. At that time, Langendamm had 115 inhabitants and Jeddeloher Wiesen had 76 inhabitants. In addition, there was Rüsseldorf south of the Vehne, which formed a village with the Rüsseldorf belonging to Jeddeloh I north of the Vehne, with 25 inhabitants.
In the course of the necessary expansion of the Hunte-Ems canal to the coastal canal (1922–1935), several peat plants settled in the Jeddeloh II area. Under these favorable economic conditions, the population grew to 485 inhabitants by 1925. In 1933 a regional reform was carried out, whereby parts of the original Jeddeloh II fell to the municipality of Wardenburg (today: Harbern I). After the Second World War, the population increased to 618 inhabitants (1950), in 1974 the mark of 1000 inhabitants was reached, in 2009 the population was 1316 people in 533 households.
