Nortex is a textile trading company based in Neumünster .

history

At the age of 28, in 1937 the businessman Richard Ohlhoff founded the company "Norddeutsche Textilhandelsgesellschaft", or Nortex for short, in the form of an open trading company in Hamburg's Südseehaus. At first 50 sewing machines were mainly used to produce "Hamburg marine folding pants" and work clothes. The Second World War temporarily limited production, but the number of employees grew to 100 by 1942. In 1943 bombs destroyed the Hamburg site ( Operation Gomorrah ).

Richard Ohlhoff founded the "Norddeutsche Textilhandelsgesellschaft", or Nortex for short, in 1937 in Hamburg.

Richard Ohlhoff then rebuilt the business in Bad Bramstedt and, due to increasing demand, set up branch plants in Neumünster, Kaltenkirchen, Bad Segeberg, Flensburg and Itzehoe from 1947 and in the following years. Suits, casual shirts and shirts, trousers, jackets, coats and jackets were added to the range of goods. During this time, up to 1,100 people worked at Nortex, with sales of up to 30 million D-Marks.

In 1960 the men's clothing factory was spun off from the main factory and re-established in Neumünster am Grünen Weg, the current company location. For the company's 25th anniversary, Richard Ohlhoff expanded the production of textiles by selling them in 30 specially built retail stores nationwide.

Between 1966 and 1969 the branch plants were closed again and in 1970 the headquarters were relocated from Bad Bramstedt to Neumünster. One of the reasons for this was that Nortex, as a manufacturing company, came under economic pressure from imports from Asian countries. 400 people were employed in Neumünster, and between 10,000 and 14,000 shirts were sold every day.

In 1974 Nortex started retailing branded fashion and special sizes. By 1977 the company completely stopped its own production and was converted into a GmbH and Co.KG. With the main store in the Grüner Weg, expanded to 4,800 square meters, and new branches in Neumünster and Kiel, the company developed into the largest provider of international branded fashion in Schleswig-Holstein. In 1980 Dieter Ohlhoff, nephew of the company founder and who has been with Nortex since 1965, was accepted into the management.

The company's 50th anniversary was lavishly celebrated in 1987 - with fashion shows and prominent stars such as Senta Berger , Cindy and Bert , Roland Kaiser and Karel Gott . Two years later, Richard Ohlhoff handed the business over to four members of his family. Dieter Ohlhoff became managing partner.

The rapidly increasing competition from shopping centers "on the green field" led Nortex to build a new building at the Grüner Weg location in Neumünster. In 1997 the new fashion center with a sales area of 10,000 square meters was inaugurated. Since 2006 Nortex has faced the challenge of several large competitors in the area. At the same time, an expansion of the range and the sales area is sought.

As of 2017, the fashion center employs 250 people, including many who have been employed there for twenty or more years. Every year, Nortex awards 600,000 items of clothing, 25,000 items are adjusted in the modification workshop, 60,000 lunches are cooked in the cafe-bistro and collected 150,000 times a year at the checkout.

gastronomy

The café-bistro at Nortex has 250 seats. Breakfast buffet, lunch menus, etc. are available there. Typical dishes from Schleswig-Holstein, some of which have become rare, are offered as a specialty.
