Frank Wormuth (born September 13, 1960 in West Berlin ) is a former German soccer player and today's coach . From 2008 to 2018 he was the head of football teacher training at the Hennes-Weisweiler Academy of the German Football Association (DFB).
As a player
Born in Berlin, Wormuth spent his childhood and youth in Mittelbaden and was initially active as a player at Offenburg FV before moving to the professional camp in the 2nd Bundesliga at SC Freiburg in 1982 . In his debut season he played with Joachim Loew for SC and made 24 appearances and one goal. After only a year he went back to his hometown for Hertha BSC , which played in the same division.
After another three years and 70 games in the 2nd division for Hertha, the defender ended his career in professional football and played as an amateur for some time for Freiburg FC and FC Denzlingen .
As a player-coach
As a link between his career as a player and that as a coach, as a so-called player- coach, he worked from 1993 to 1998, at FV Nimburg and FC Teningen . Then Frank Wormuth ended his playing career.
As a trainer
Wormuth gained his first professional experience as a coach in the 1998/99 season as assistant coach of his former teammate Joachim Löw at Fenerbahçe Istanbul . On July 1, 1999, he took over the position of head coach at SC Pfullendorf , which is playing in the Regionalliga Süd . He worked there until March 2001. After that, he was a brief coach at FV Ravensburg .
At the start of the 2002/03 season, Wormuth signed as a coach with the second division club SSV Reutlingen 05 . Shortly before the end of the season, however, he was replaced by Uwe Erkenbrecher due to unsuccessful relegation battle for the last games . After this dismissal, he paused the entire next season before he was hired by 1. FC Union Berlin as a coach for the Regionalliga Nord for the 2004/05 season . At the end of September 2004, however, he was released there. From July 1, 2005 to December 9, 2006 he was the head coach of VfR Aalen . He was succeeded by former Bundesliga player Edgar Schmitt on January 15, 2007.
On January 1, 2008, Wormuth replaced Erich Rutemöller as head of soccer teacher training at the Hennes-Weisweiler Academy of the DFB. From 2010 he was also the coach of the German U-20 national team . In 2016, Guido Streichsbier became his successor as U-20 coach, while Wormuth will concentrate only on coaching until the end of the 2017/18 season. Since the 2018/19 season he has been the head coach of the Dutch honorary division Heracles Almelo .
