Jorge Meré Pérez (born April 17, 1997 in Oviedo ) is a Spanish football player . He is under contract with 1. FC Köln and plays in the position of central defender .

Career

Jorge Meré comes from Real Oviedo's youth . In 2010 he moved to Sporting Gijón , all of whose youth teams he went through. For the 2013/14 season Mere was in the squad of the B team in the Segunda División B played. Here he completed 47 missions from 2013 to 2015 and scored three goals. He made his league debut for the first team of Sporting Gijón on April 11, 2015 in the game against Real Zaragoza in the Segunda División . Overall, he was in five games for the club in the Segunda División and 56 games in the Primera División on the field.

In July 2017 he joined 1. FC Köln . His contract runs until 2022. There he made his debut in the Bundesliga in the 3-0 away defeat against FC Augsburg on September 9, 2017 (3rd matchday). He scored his first league goal for Cologne on February 2, 2018 (21st matchday) in the 2: 3 home defeat against Borussia Dortmund .

He played for various Spanish junior teams from U-17 and has been part of the U-21 squad since 2015 . With this he reached the final at the 2017 European Championships in Poland , which they lost to Germany . In 2019 he became European champion with the U-21s at the European Championships in Italy and San Marino , but sat on the bench from the semi-finals.
