Wales became world champions for men and Australia for women.

canditature

Seven countries, more than ever before, had shown interest in hosting the World Cup. After Kenya and South Africa withdrew , five countries remained. The United Arab Emirates , Australia , the Netherlands , Russia and the USA submitted official applications. The choice of the International Rugby Board (IRB) finally fell in the second round on the United Arab Emirates. The reasons for this decision, given by the IRB, are the construction of a new stadium with 50,000 seats and the recent success of the U-19 World Cup and the Dubai Sevens .
