Ulla Scholl (also Ulla Scholl senior, born March 18, 1919 in Darmstadt ; † August 21, 2011 in Dachau ) was a German sculptor . She belongs to a dynasty of sculptors that can be traced back to the 17th century and that has produced twelve artists over several generations. Members included Johann Baptist Scholl the Elder. Ä. (1784–1854), Johann Baptist Scholl the Younger (1818–1881).

Life

She was born as the youngest daughter of the sculptor Hermann Maria Scholl (1875–1957) in Darmstadt. Ulla Scholl began her studies in 1937 with Gustav Scheinpflug at the Mainz School of Art. From 1938 on she studied sculpture with Hermann Geibel , architecture with Rosemann and art history with Ottilie Thiemann-Stoedtner at the TH Darmstadt and at the Städelschule in Frankfurt with Herbert Garbe . Thanks to a grant her hometown she could 1940 in Munich sculpture u. a. study with Joseph Wackerle .

Ulla Scholl has been working as a freelance artist since the 1950s and became known nationwide thanks to her sculptural works in public spaces and for art in architecture. She lived for many years in Munich and later in Dachau . After the death of Ottilie Thiemann-Stoedtner, whom she knew from their youth together in Darmstadt, she lived in the Carl Thiemann House on Hermann-Stockmann-Strasse in Dachau, where her daughter, the sculptor and painter Ulla M Scholl jun. (* 1948) still lives and works today.

In 1976 she was the first woman to be commissioned to create a work for the Munich Hall of Fame and to create the marble bust of the Bavarian State Minister Maximilian Graf von Montgelas . In 1987 an order for the bust of Adolf von Hildebrand followed .

Ulla Scholl died in Dachau at the age of 92. She was buried in the family grave at the Alter Friedhof (Darmstadt) (grave site: IB 105).
