European men's roller hockey championship 2010

The men's roller hockey European championship 2010 took place from September 5th to 11th, 2010 in Wuppertal . The Wuppertal University Hall , which can accommodate around 4,000 visitors, served as the venue .

It was the 49th Roller Hockey - European Championships and was held between eight teams. The reigning European champions and defending champions were the Spanish team . After the men's roller hockey world championship in 1997 and the women's roller hockey world championship in 2004 , it was the third major tournament in Wuppertal that was organized by the Cronenberg e. V. (RSC Cronenberg) was hosted. The national coach Sven Steup reckoned between 10,000 and 15,000 visitors for the tournament.

The tournament

The tournament started in the preliminary round with two groups of four teams each. After the preliminary round games, the following ranking came about:

  • Group A: 1st Spain 6: 0 points / 27: 0 goals, 2nd Switzerland 4: 2/13: 9, France 2: 4/9: 13, Austria 0: 6/1: 28
  • Group B: 1st Portugal 6: 0 points / 23: 3 goals, 2nd Italy 3: 3/9: 9, 3rd Germany 3: 3/10: 11, 4th England 0: 6/6: 25

Within the group, each team played against all group opponents. After the preliminary round, in which each team played three games, all teams reached the quarter-finals. The pairings were as follows:

  • 1st group A: 4th group B: Spain 11-1 England
  • 2. Group A: 3. Group B: Switzerland 0-2 Germany
  • 3rd group A: 2nd group B: France 3-2 Italy a.d.
  • 4. Group A: 1. Group B: Austria - Portugal 0:23

The following results were then achieved in the placement games for places 5-8: Switzerland - Austria 4: 1, Italy - England 5: 3, England - Austria 8: 3 and Italy - Switzerland 4: 2. This put Italy, Switzerland, England and Austria in 5th to 8th place in that order.

In the semi-finals the following was played:

  • Portugal - Germany 6-1
  • Spain 4-0 France

In the game for third place France - Germany it was 1: 1 after regular time. The two five-minute extra time went goalless. France won the penalty shootout 2-0 to the final score 3-1 and thus the bronze medals.

In the final the two leading European roller hockey nations Portugal and the defending champion and reigning world champion Spain faced each other. Spain with possibly the world's best player and team captain Pedro Gil won the undisputed European championship with an 8: 2.
