history

The long way to independence

On August 7th, 1954, the RSC Cronenberg was founded in the south of Wuppertal by breaking away from Cronenberger SC , a multi-sports club from Wuppertal, in order to finally be independent. At that time there was a roller hockey club in Cronenberg, the Cronenberger TG (CTG), for about 20 years . One of the founding members was Alfred Henckels, who gave the Alfred Henckels Hall its name. Already in the first year there were around 110 skaters in the club.

The rapid and very positive development was largely made possible by Henckels. At the age of 18, he was a founding member of the Elberfeld roller and ice skating club . He gained his first successes and experiences long before the founding of the RSC at the Remscheid ice and roller sports club , then switched to the CTG in 1932.

In 1955, the first disputes followed with the roller hockey association, as they did not recognize the sloping playing surface of the Lenzhauser school yard as a playing field. Thus, in 1957, a separate railway was built, and cabins, showers and toilets followed later. With the construction of this track, the RSC got over 20 new young members within one night.

In 1963 the youth team qualified for the German championship for the first time. Henckels reacted and bought his team better game material. The RSC came in third. There were already other plans: a floodlight system was built, and a roofing followed in 1972.

Since 1962, things have also improved with the first team. With coach Siegfried Siebel, he was promoted to the league, three years later, the promotion. From now on, the goal was the roller hockey Bundesliga . That was achieved in 1972 on November 5th at 12:18 pm. The team around Gerd Richter, Ulrich Freund, Ulrich Bielau, Horst Henckels, Dietmar Schwieren, Manfred Koppe, Peter Stroucken and Jörg Dombeck was celebrated by over 700 spectators. The year was also one of the most successful in history: The second team rose to the top league, the juniors became German champions, Gaby Nießen became city and state champion in art skating.

German champion for the first time

After rising again in 1974, the House of Lords has remained until today. The beginning of the Cronenberg success story can be seen in 1980 when the first German championship was won. Back then, the team around Schwieder, Oberst, Kühn, Gillesen, Furmanek, Bienefeld, Peter Kühn, Peter Renner, Treml, Klaus Rupsch and Dirk Haupt defeated RSC Darmstadt 6-1 in a game that was well worth seeing . Since then, a total of twelve further championship titles have been won and nine cup victories have been celebrated. Since 1996, only six seasons (2000, 2004, 2009, 2013, 2014 and 2016) have passed without a title win.

The numerous national championships and cup wins as well as the international appearances in the Champions League are very popular in the city. In 2010, for example, the club was named Wuppertal Club of the Year , and in the same year, Trainer Steup received the Wuppertal Trainer of the Year award .

In August 2012, the RSC Cronenberg moved up to 63 in the official club world rankings for the first time, in December 2013 it was listed on rank 25, making it the best-placed German club. The ERG Iserlohn followed 54th, Germania Herringen at No. 68 and the IGR Remscheid at No. 83. Leaders are southern European teams.

The RSC is also characterized by a number of successes in all youth age groups. In 2017 alone, the Cronenberg youth teams won five out of a possible six German championship titles. This is noticeable in the Bundesliga; There are currently six players in the men's team who are 20 years old or younger.
