The roller sports club IGR Remscheid e. V. (IGR Remscheid) is a sports club from Remscheid . IGR Remscheid plays roller hockey and is one of the leading clubs in Germany in this sport.

history

1962-2000

As early as the 1930s, roller sports in the form of figure skating , roller dancing and roller hockey were practiced in several clubs in Remscheid . On April 1, 1962, the Remscheid Gymnastics Club from 1861 and the VfB Marathon 06 founded the "Rolling Sport Remscheid Interest Group". The aim of this community of interests, to which the Remscheid gymnastics club brought its figure skating and the VfB marathon its roller hockey department, was to join the national top in roller sports by bundling activities. In 1965, the cooperation paid off for the first time and the IGR Remscheid was promoted to the top roller hockey league, at that time the highest national league and forerunner of the roller hockey Bundesliga founded in 1967 .

The IGR Remscheid is still represented in the roller hockey Bundesliga with an interruption of only two years. In 1968 the IGR Remscheid made the leap to the top by winning the first German roller hockey championship. The subsequent appearance in the European Champions Cup only ended in the semi-finals. In 1969 the championship title could be defended and at the same time the youth work paid off, because the A-youth also became German roller hockey champions. In the following years the IGR Remscheid produced many outstanding roller hockey players, for example Wolfgang Jex, who played around 250 international matches for Germany. In 1978 the IGR Remscheid won the third championship title. In 1987 the IGR Juniors became German roller hockey champions.

Bundesliga team 1991/92 - German champions

At the beginning of the nineties, the legendary duels between IGR Remscheid and RSV Weil followed in the Bundesliga , against which the German roller hockey championships number four and five were won in 1992 and 1994. In 1993 and 1995, the IGR, peppered with German and Dutch national players, reached the semi-finals of the European Champions Cup. The last two championships, however, had overstretched the financial situation, so that a new start had to be made after personnel departures. In 1996 the heavily rejuvenated squad was only just able to prevent relegation from the roller hockey Bundesliga. The women's roller hockey team at IGR Remscheid were able to reach the runner-up in the women's roller hockey Bundesliga in 1998 and 1999.

2001-2009

In 2001, the two sponsoring associations agreed to dissolve the interest group again. The Remscheid gymnastics club then continued the figure skating activities and the VfB Marathon, which has since been renamed VfB 06/08 Remscheid , continued the roller hockey activities on its own. In the following years, the connection to the top of the roller hockey Bundesliga succeeded and in 2002, 2005, 2006 and 2007 the semi-finals of the play-offs of the German roller hockey championship were reached. There have been successes in the youth field in particular since 2001: In 2001 and 2007, the B youth (U14) won the German roller hockey championship, in 2004, 2008 and 2009 the C youth (U11) and in 2002, 2005 and 2007 the D- Youth (U9).

Since 2010

At the end of 2009, according to a resolution of the general assembly of VfB Remscheid, the roller hockey department was spun off from the club and during the current season it was incorporated into the “Rollsportverein -IGR-Remscheid e. V. ", IGR Remscheid for short. With the approval of the German Roller Sports and Inline Association (DRIV), the IGR Remscheid has continued to play in all leagues since January 1, 2010. In 2010 the A-youth (U17) became German roller hockey champions. In 2011 the men of IGR Remscheid took third place in the roller hockey Bundesliga and reached the DRIV Cup final, in which they were defeated by ERG Iserlohn 2: 3 and 5: 7. The D-Jugend (U9) won the German roller hockey championship in 2011. The women of IGR Remscheid, who have played in a syndicate with SC Mokitos Wuppertal since 2010 and took second place, will compete in the new single-track women's roller hockey Bundesliga from 2011. The U20 juniors of the IGR Remscheid won the German championship in July 2013.

Cheers after winning the cup in 2016

In the 2015/16 season, IGR Remscheid managed to win the DRIV Cup for the first time in the club's history. The U17 juniors also became German champions for the first time and were able to defend the title the following year. In the 2016/2017 season, the IGR reached the final of the German championship again after 23 years, but failed in two games at ERG Iserlohn. In the 2017/2018 season, for the first time in almost 20 years, a women's team from IGR Remscheid will start in the women's Bundesliga. In December 2017, the IGR Remscheid hosted the 4th European U17 junior championship in the Hackenberg sports hall on behalf of the European roller sports association CERH , in which the German national junior team took 3rd place. As of May 1, 2018, the IGR Remscheid Bundesliga team finished 62nd in the official club world rankings, the best place among German clubs. The U13 youth and the U17 juniors became German champions. At the end of the 2018/2019 season, the men's and women's teams were in the finals for the German Championship and the DRIV Cup, but were unable to win any of the titles. In the 2019/2020 season, the women's team won the German championship for the first time. Due to the effects of the corona pandemic, the German Roller Sports and Inline Association stopped the season one day before the end of the main round. The IGR Remscheid was declared champion as the leader of the table using a quotient rule.
