Every year on the last Sunday in October, the X-ray run starts at Hackenberg with an international cast and up to 4,000 participants.

History of the Hackenberg residential area

Hackenberg was first mentioned in a document on October 1, 1325 in a document by Count Adolf VI. from mountain . This document differentiated between the citizens of Lennep (“our burgern van Lennepe”) and “unse wyckbolt”. The wyckbolt is used to describe those citizens who lived outside the city walls “in the soft image ” of the city. In the records it says: "Item tzwe Hoeue yn Hackenberg". A few lines further after mentioning several other farms, the following is quoted: "Item Walrauen Hoeff van Blyttart op Hackenberge" (also Walraf's farm from Blittart on Hackenberg).

In the 18th century the place belonged to the Bergisches Amt Bornefeld-Hückeswagen . In 1815/16 145 people lived in the village. In 1832, Hackenberg was still part of the Altbergian rural community of Fünfzehnhöfe , which now belonged to the mayor's office of Wermelskirchen . According to the statistics and topography of the Düsseldorf administrative district , the place called a hamlet had a school, 23 residential buildings and 18 agricultural buildings at that time. At that time, 191 residents lived in the place, twelve Catholic and 179 Protestant faith.

In the municipality lexicon for the province of Rhineland , 21 houses with 285 inhabitants are given for the year 1885. At that time the place belonged to the mayor's office of Fünfzehnhöfe within the Lennep district . In 1895 the place had 20 houses with 230 inhabitants, in 1905 21 houses and 186 inhabitants.

In 1906, the mayor's office was incorporated into the town of Lennep with Hackenberg.

Remarks
  1. Despite the name, the school and sports center and the H 2 O leisure pool are not located in the Hackenberg district, but entirely in the Henkelshof district, as Hackenberger Strasse forms the boundary (north of Hackenberg, south of Henkelshof).
