Bökerhöhe is a district of the independent city of Remscheid in the district of Remscheid-Süd . 699 inhabitants live in the district (as of 2006) on an area of 69 hectares. Bökerhöhe is located south of Wüstenhagen and Lenneper Straße near junction 95b “Remscheid” of federal motorway 1 .
history
The district emerged from the beginning of the 1920s as part of a settlement project funded by Moritz Böker based on plans by Remscheid's city planning officer Ludwig Lemmer . In 2014 the civil association Gemarke Bökerhöhe e. V. celebrates its 90th anniversary. The Bökerhöhe district itself is considered to be the oldest settlement on the outskirts of Remscheid. One street is named after Adolf Damaschke . The street "Neuland" got its new name "Doddestraße" in 1929 in honor of Walter Dodde, who as a lay brother on June 5, 1288 led the mountain farmers "with a fiery speech" into the battle of Worringen .
landscape
To the south of the district there is a large piece of forest that stretches to the Eschbachtalsperre . The source of the Tenter Bach is also located there .
At Elisabeth-Platz there is the “Böker- Linde ”, a stately tree that falls under the tree protection statute and is constantly tended by the city's employees.
Education & Culture
The community secondary school Bökerhöhe was on the western edge of the district. The evening school is now located here on Gustav-Michel-Weg .
In 1921 the settlement association Bökerhöhe - now the Bürgererverein Gemarke Bökerhöhe e. V. - founded, to which the first settlers belonged. The “community home” is there for gatherings in Doddestrasse. In the past, the “Bökerhöher” celebrated a fair with a swing boat every year on Elisabeth-Platz, now there is only the summer festival.
Transport and infrastructure
Structurally striking are the "Löfs" wall passages on the Bökerhöhe, of which only one still exists on Elisabeth-Platz. The others are built on or integrated into the residential buildings.
After the Second World War there was a good basic supply for the settlement. Two grocery stores, a butcher, a consumer, a haberdashery, a shoemaker and a cigarette shop were part of it. Gradually, however, the residents moved their purchases outside, so that local supplies were no longer available.
Due to the proximity to the federal road 229 and the good location in the interface between the city center of Remscheid and the Lennep district , the district has good connections to the inner-city public transport. Several city bus and night express lines stop at the “Bökerhöhe” stop of the same name.
There is also close proximity to the junction of the A1 motorway.
