Remscheid-Süd is a district of Remscheid . The area covers 1388 hectares and is therefore the smallest district of Remscheid. The highest point is at Hohenhagen on the Brodtberg at 378.86 m.

geography

The Eschbach , which is dammed in the Eschbachtalsperre, flows on the southern border of the city district . Several nature reserves and landscape protection areas are in the south, u. a. the Hohenhagen quarry, the area at the upper Teufelsbach, and the areas at the Tenter and Böker Bach. Furthermore, there are extensive green spaces between the numerous industrial areas, such as the Kuckuck recreation area on the embroidery route to Bliedinghausen on the Wuppertal-Oberbarmen-Solingen railway line .

The Highway 1 adjacent Remscheid-Süd both in the south and from the east from other districts. Half of the driveway 95b Remscheid is in the southern district and the other half in the Lennep district to the east .

In local public transport, numerous city buses operated by the Remscheid municipal utilities and other transport companies serve the city district. An important junction for public transport is located at the central point, from where numerous lines run to the various parts of the city. Right on the border to the municipality of Alt-Remscheid is the main station of the city of Remscheid.

The St. Josef Church, built in 1928, is the only Catholic church in Remscheid-Süd on the corner of Berghauser and Menninghauser Straße. In addition, the Protestant Christ Church, the Protestant Church of Reconciliation, the Protestant St. John's Church and the Protestant community and district center Eschenstrasse are located in Remscheid-Süd. In the district of Bliedinghausen there has also been the evangelical south cemetery since 1903, on which there is also a cemetery chapel. The Catholic community also has its own burial site, the Papenberg cemetery. The resting areas including the chapel are on Rosenhügeler Straße.

There are a total of five primary schools in Remscheid-Süd. The Struck Community Primary School, popularly known as the “Strucker Eierkiste”, the Walther Hartmann Primary School, the Dörpfeld Community Primary School, the Mannesmann Primary School and the Menninghausen Catholic Primary School. In addition, the Nelson Mandela Secondary School , the Sophie Scholl Comprehensive School, the Heinrich Neumann Förderschule and the Technical College are located in Remscheid-Süd. In addition, the vocational training center of the Remscheid metal and electrical industry is located in Remscheid-Süd and the advanced training college of the city of Remscheid is in the building of the former Bökerhöhe secondary school.

Culture and sights

The West German Tournee Theater, founded in 1950, is located in the center of the borough on Bismarckstrasse and offers a constantly changing program.

The Eschbachtalsperre , the first drinking water dam in Germany, is located at the Remscheid service station on the A1 . On both slopes you can still see the remains of the ravines that led through the bottom of the barrier and mark the old military road Cologne – Soest.
