Vaillant ([ vaˈjã ], German also [ ˈvaɪlˌlant ]) is a brand of the Vaillant Group . Vaillant is active throughout Europe in the area of heating , ventilation and air conditioning technology , which also use renewable energies . The product portfolio includes solar thermal and photovoltaic systems , heat pumps , pellet boilers , ventilation devices for low-energy houses, heating systems based on fossil fuels such as combined heat and power systems , condensing boilers and intelligent controls.

brand

Vaillant has been known as the brand with the rabbit in its logo since 1899 . Johann Vaillant came up with the idea of an unmistakable trademark on Easter Sunday in the Catholic monthly magazine "Alte und Neue Welt". He came across a picture by the Plauen painter Hermann Vogel , in which the Easter bunny hatches from an egg. Johann Vaillant acquired the picture with copyright and made it his trademark. Over the years, the bunny in the egg went through nine redesigns. The basic strategy that Johann Vaillant pursued from the beginning was retained: the Vaillant rabbit is unique. In addition to the typical rabbit, there was also the green corporate color; a high level of awareness was achieved: more than 40 percent of Germans can identify the company precisely, and almost 72 percent of Germans are familiar with Vaillant; in Austria and Holland, at 74 and 73 percent, even a little more.

history

In 1874, Johann Vaillant went into business for himself with a master installation company, thus creating the beginning of today's Vaillant Group. Vaillant applied for his first patent in July 1894 for the gas bath heater "closed system" and thus opened the market. For the first time, water could be heated with his stove, which was hygienic and did not contain any residues of combustion gases. As early as 1905, Vaillant introduced a compact wall-hung version of the gas bath heater, thereby presenting an innovation for hot water preparation. The central heating boiler was developed in 1924. The previous use of individual stoves in each room was no longer necessary, as this boiler could heat an entire building from a central point.

Franz Wilhelm joined the company in 1955 and was managing director from 1966 to 1989, and was represented on the shareholders' committee until 1994. He built the company into the market leader.

In 1961 Vaillant was the first company to bring a wall-mounted heater onto the market: the "Circo-Geyser MAG-C 20". In 1967 Vaillant presented another innovation with the “Combi-Geyser VCW 20”. For the first time, the device combined heating and hot water technology and could be tailored to individual needs. The first electronically controlled wall-mounted gas heater from Vaillant came onto the market in 1974.

In 1983 Vaillant introduced the Thermoblock series with stainless steel heat exchangers, continuous modulation and electronic ignition. In 1995 Vaillant's first wall-mounted condensing boiler came onto the market. Vaillant took the first step in the field of regenerative energies a year later. The product portfolio was expanded to include solar thermal systems for heating drinking water. In 1999 Vaillant celebrated its 125th anniversary with 40 million units sold and winning the German Quality Prize. In-house heat pump production started in 2006 at the Gelsenkirchen site . The following year, Stiftung Warentest awarded the Vaillant geoTHERM plus heat pump as the best product with the rating “Good”. In 2008 we started our own solar flat-plate collector production in the Gelsenkirchen plant. In 2010 the first zeolite gas heat pump was launched. In 2011, a micro-combined heat and power system with the product name "Vaillant ecoPOWER 1.0" was added to the product range through a cooperation with Honda .

Solar thermal and photovoltaic systems are sold under the brand that use solar energy for heating and hot water or convert it into electricity. Vaillant also offers heat pumps, ventilation units for low-energy houses and condensing systems based on the fossil fuels natural gas and oil. The condensing technology uses the thermal energy contained in the exhaust gases that is lost in conventional heating devices. This reduces fuel consumption, heating costs and emissions. Hybrid systems combine gas or oil condensing boilers with solar energy. In addition, from 2006 to 2018 Vaillant manufactured mini and micro block-type thermal power stations for the decentralized supply of electricity and heat. In July 2018, Vaillant announced that it would stop the production and sale of mini and micro CHP systems.

Vaillant products have already received the red dot design award several times - since 2002 Vaillant has received a total of 18 awards.

Trivia

On January 1, 2007, the former Davos ice rink in Switzerland was renamed the Vaillant Arena , as Vaillant bought the naming rights for CHF 3 million. This financed the urgently needed reconstruction of the south stand. The Vaillant Arena is the home stadium of the Swiss ice hockey club and record champions HC Davos .
