Johann Vaillant (born April 27, 1851 in Kaiserswerth , meanwhile a district of Düsseldorf ; † March 11, 1920 ) is the founder of the family company Vaillant , which today produces components, devices and systems in the field of heating technology.

Johann Vaillant was born in 1851 as the tenth child of the master tailor Franz Theodor Vaillant and his wife Maria, geb. Goetzen was born.

He started his own business in Remscheid in 1874 by announcing that he had "established himself as a copper hammer and pump maker".

In 1894 Johann Vaillant received the patent for his invention, the bath heater as a "closed system" in which the water was heated "cleanly and safely". With that he created a new market; He was the first to succeed in heating water indirectly without it coming into contact with the heating gas . This had the advantage over the open system that it was possible to regulate the water temperature.

This marked the beginning of the young company's rapid growth. Vaillant developed from a craft business to a manufacturing company. The sales success in Germany and increasing exports to soon all European countries made it necessary to move from the first small workshop to a larger company site in 1897.

The company's founder had the vision to distinguish himself as a brand provider: In 1899 he registered the “Easter bunny in the egg” brand as a trademark, which from then on adorned the company's products and catalogs. Today the Vaillant bunny is the most famous heating technology brand in Europe. Seven out of ten German consumers know the symbol.
