Cheers after winning the first game of the 2006 play-off final series

On January 13, 1965, 17 men founded the roller hockey department in a hotel in Iserlohn. In the first five years there was a roller hockey department as well as a figure skating department. On November 6, 1965, a game against a team from Bielefeld could be hosted for the first time on an open field at the Seilersee . The next year they started in leagues. In addition to the ERGI regional league games, the 1966 international roller hockey tournament, won by the Bundesliga club Germania Herringen , took place for the first time on the Seilersee . After that, the tournament took place regularly in Iserlohn. In the 1967 season, the ERGI made the league promotion. From the initial 17 founding members, the number of members rose to 250 at this point. With this number, ERGI was in second place in North Rhine-Westphalia.

From 1968 the club played in the Carl Diem sports hall , which was inaugurated with a game against a NRW selection team (3-8 defeat). In 1970, when the weather was good, they were still playing on the outside lane and they were promoted to the 1st Bundesliga . There, ERGI had to be satisfied with the runner-up in 1972, 1973 and 1975. In 1976 and a year later in 1977 they became German champions. After the first championship, ERGI also appeared in an international competition for the first time. In 1977, the later championship team failed extremely unlucky after a penalty shoot- out against the Italian representative Laverda . A year later, ERGI lost to the Portuguese team from Valongo in two games. But in 1977 there were not only sporting changes, because since that year the home games have been played in the larger Hemberg hall.

After the runner-up in 1978 and fourth place in 1979, they were voluntarily demoted to the regional league. In the following years, the offspring was the association's capital. The first team played mediocre in the regional league, but the juniors won a few titles. In 1978 you could only reach fourth place at the school championships. In 1980 they reached second place at the youth championships, again two years later the same result was achieved in the junior age group. In 1984 there was another success for the “big ones”. After a relegation game against the first of the Regionalliga Nord, the promotion to the Bundesliga succeeded. ERGI was able to fight for the runner-up in the next year. In the following season, they won the championship in Sauerland for the third time in the club's history. For the following year that meant another European Cup. The opponent this time came from Portugal again and was called ADSanjoanense, a defeat could not be avoided.

Since then, ERGI has played continuously in the top German league. In 1991 there was the best result for a long time with third place. In the new millennium, Iserlohn is once again one of the best teams in Germany. In both 2004 and 2005, ERGI won the cup competition. There were regular top placements in the Bundesliga. In 2005, after an exciting play-off series, they were even able to become runner-up again. In the 2006 season, ERGI was also in the final. The first game of the series against RSC Cronenberg was won 4: 3 in front of their own audience. And in the second game, too, they managed to win against the Cronenberger, who had long been regarded as dominant, so that ERGI was able to celebrate its fourth championship title ahead of time.

After winning the championship in 2006, the goal was to defend the title in 2007, but they lost the final games against RSC Cronenberg. 2007 was the first year since 2004 without a title win. A year later they wanted to get back on the road to success. In the final of the German championship, ERGI finally prevailed again against RSC Cronenberg. In the “Best of three” series, they defeated the annual final opponent 2-0, which meant they were German champions in 2008 after a year without a title. In 2009 the double of championship and cup victory was achieved for the first time.

In 2010 the ice sports and roller hockey departments were separated. The ice sports department founded a new club. Due to its great national and international fame, the name ERGI stayed with roller hockey, which has since been called the First Roller Hockey Community Iserlohn. In addition, the city of Iserlohn built a new triple sports hall on Hemberg in 2010. Since February 2011, ERGI has been playing in this sports hall, which meets all requirements with around 1500 spectator seats, a parquet floor, and a sponsor and media room.

As of the 2011/2012 season, a women's team will again be playing in the league for ERG Iserlohn. The initiative took the national player and Spain legionnaire Maren Wichardt. The rest of the squad consists of former players from TV Paderborn as well as young players from Germania Herringen and one of their own.

In the official club world rankings for roller hockey, ERG Iserlohn was ranked 54th in December 2013, behind the reigning German champion RSC Cronenberg in 25th and ahead of Germania Herringen in 68th and the IGR Remscheid in 83rd. Southern European teams were leading .
