The E-Control for the regulation of the electricity and gas industry - or short E-Control - is responsible for the electricity and gas industry regulator in Austria .

E-Control has been operating since March 1, 2001. At that time it was set up by the legislature on the basis of the Energy Regulatory Authority Act, Federal Law Gazette I No. 121/2000, as a GmbH , which was 100% owned by the federal government , represented by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Labor .

With the federal law on the regulatory authority in the electricity and natural gas industry ( Energie-Control-Gesetz - E-ControlG), ten years after its foundation on March 3, 2011, E-Control GmbH was named Energie-Control Austria for the regulation of Electricity and natural gas industry (E-Control) has been converted into an institution under public law and its organs are made completely free of instructions when performing regulatory tasks.

The organs of E-Control include:

  • The board of directors and the supervisory board
  • The regulatory commission , whose area of ​​responsibility is the development and control of the conditions for network access and tariffs, measures to secure the natural gas supply, conflict resolution and other things
  • The Regulatory Advisory Board , both made up of representatives from ministries, local authorities and other interest groups. The task includes advising E-Control on matters to be carried out by the regulatory authority.
