Karl-Heinz Zerrle

Karl-Heinz Zerrle (born July 8, 1944 in Burgau , Swabia) is a German Catholic priest. From 2000 to 2011 he was 1st Chairman of the State Caritas Association of Bavaria.

Career

After graduating from high school in Augsburg, Zerrle studied theology in Augsburg, Dillingen and Munich. In 1970 he received his ordination as a priest in Augsburg Cathedral . His chaplain years led him first to Augsburg and Ichenhausen, in 1975 he came to Neuburg adDonau as a military pastor.

In 1981 he moved to the Caritas Association of the Diocese of Augsburg as secretary , was appointed second Caritas director in 1984 and, in 1990, succeeded Hermann Lutz as its head. In the ten years of his activity as Caritas director, a network of Caritas district associations was set up to decentralize the association. He continued the expansion of the addiction counseling centers and the social psychiatric services of the diocese. The inpatient facilities for the disabled and the elderly were combined in a non-profit gGmbH.

For Walter Siegert , who is retiring , Zerrle was elected as the successor to the office of the Bavarian State Caritas Director in 1999 and took up his position on January 1, 2000. At the same time he is the head of the main agency in Munich of the German Caritas Association.

Since 1965 he has been a member of the Catholic student association KDStV Algovia Augsburg.
