Walter Siegert (theologian)

Walter Siegert (born February 7, 1926 in Burgweinting ; † January 14, 2012 in Regensburg ) was a German Roman Catholic theologian and priest .

Life

Siegert studied theology in Regensburg and Würzburg and was ordained a priest in 1954 . Then he was chaplain in Viechtach , Weiden and Regensburg until 1963 , before he was appointed to the Diocesan Caritas Association as Caritas Secretary and later as Diocesan Caritas Director. He founded the church technical academy in Regensburg and Weiden as well as two technical schools for elderly care in Landshut and Sulzbach-Rosenberg . In 1975 he became chairman of the Catholic Academy for Nursing Professions in Bavaria. From 1973 to 1993 he was chairman of the working group for public and independent welfare in the administrative region of Upper Palatinate . In 1981 he was elected Vice President of the German Caritas Association, in which he was also a member of the Central Board and the Central Council. In 1994 he became regional Caritas director in Bavaria. Siegert, who was made an honorary papal prelate in 1988 , was a member of the Bavarian Senate from 1994 until its dissolution in 1999.
