Matthäus Runtinger Medal

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Matthäus-Runtinger-Medal is an award first given in 1980 by the city of Regensburg to personalities who have made great contributions to the well-being or reputation of the city in the field of economy, society, working life or in pre-political areas.

The city council's resolution for the award was made on July 26, 1979. The name is given by the merchant, city architect and archivist Matthäus Runtinger (around 1350–1407).

In 2013, the awarding of the award to the controversial cleaning contractor Karlheinz Götz met with criticism from city councilors Richard Spieß and Irmgard Freihoffer (both Die Linke ) and from Reinhard Peter, the trade union secretary at IG Bau .
