The BMW plant in Regensburg is a BMW AG automobile plant in the south of Regensburg with a total area of approx. 140 hectares.
history
The decision in favor of the BMW plant was made in 1982 due to the strong demand for the BMW 3 Series, which was introduced in 1976. In 1986, after a two-year construction period, production began, followed by body manufacture in 1990. The millionth vehicle rolled out of the Regensburg plant back in 1995, and this milestone was followed by the fifty thousandth M3 in 1997 . In addition, a press shop was put into operation this year . In 1998 the plant had grown so much that the workforce has now grown to 8,000 employees. In 2001 the mark of 2 million vehicles manufactured in Regensburg was reached. In addition, the decision to manufacture the 1 series in Regensburg marked the groundbreaking for a further expansion of the plant. Production of the 1 series began three years later in 2004. The three millionth vehicle was produced in the Regensburg plant as early as 2005 and the four millionth in 2008. Production of the BMW Z4 started in 2009 , and an extension to the press shop was put into operation. In 2010, renovation work was carried out in the plant for the series production of the 2nd generation of the BMW 1 Series, which began in 2011 . Production of the 6th generation of the BMW 3 Series as well as extensive investment measures in the press shop, body shop and logistics began in 2012.
