Walter Kunerth

Walter Kunerth (born November 19, 1940 ) is a German mechanical engineer , manager and honorary professor at the University of Stuttgart .

Life

Kunerth studied mechanical engineering at the University of Stuttgart. From 1966 to 1976 he worked at the Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Engineering and Automation (IPA). There he dealt scientifically and in industrial consulting with questions of company organization. From 1973 he was a member of the institute's management.

In 1974 he did his doctorate at the University of Stuttgart under Professor Warnecke with the thesis, assessment of the investment object "EDP-supported production control system". He also taught at the University of Stuttgart from 1968 to 1998, first as a lecturer and from 1987 as an honorary professor.

From 1976 to 1997 he worked for Siemens . From 1984 to 1987 he was head of the automotive electronics division. During this time, this increased sales from 40 to 350 million DM. From 1988 to 1993 he was chairman of the automotive technology division . This grew during this time from 1.6 billion to 3.2 billion DM and was sold to Continental AG in 2007 for 11.4 billion euros.

From 1992 he was a member of the Siemens executive board, from 1993 a member of the central board. In this function he was responsible for Central Research and Central Production and Logistics. He was also responsible for the areas of automotive technology, drive, switching and installation technology, passive components and tubes as well as electromechanical components. In addition, he was responsible for the global efficiency program "TOP" (Time Optimized Processes). This led to an improvement in Siemens' cost position by DM 30 billion within 4 years. Kunerth was also Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Fraunhofer Society, a member of the Senate of the Helmholtz Association and Deputy Chairman of the DIN Presidium.

Today he lives in Zeitlarn and works as an industrial consultant.
