Mixed team
Throughout the history of sports , mixed teams have been formed for a variety of reasons . In a large number of team competitions , teams formed from athletes from different countries competed.
The mixed team must be distinguished from the so-called mixed teams, in which competitors of both sexes compete in one team.

At the Olympic Games in Athens in 1896, Paris in 1900 and Saint Louis in 1904, the concept of national teams did not yet play a decisive role and so mixed teams competed in the following team competitions:

- Tennis doubles (including the Irish John Pius Boland with the German Friedrich Adolf Traun )

- Athletics team races (including a British-Australian team)
- Tug of war (including a Swedish-Danish team)

All-German team
In the development of post-war Germany , a mixed team of athletes from the FRG and the GDR took part during the Winter Olympics in 1956 , 1960 and 1964 and the Summer Olympics in 1956 , 1960 and 1964 .
United team
In 1992, the United Team was the name of the joint team of the countries of the CIS and Georgia at the Winter Olympic Games in Albertville and the Summer Games in Barcelona .
Youth Olympic Games
Since the 2010 Summer Youth Games , a mixed, international team competition has been held in several competitions in addition to the individual competitions. A team from different countries and both genders is put together for this purpose. Initially, these were selected according to continents, but now there are cross-continental teams.
Rugby union
In rugby union there are several national teams that represent several countries. The British and Irish Lions ( England , Scotland , Wales and Ireland ) and the Pacific Islanders ( Fiji , Samoa and Tonga ) play mostly friendly matches, but the Irish national rugby union team , which represents both Ireland and Northern Ireland , also takes participated in important tournaments such as the World Cup and the Six Nations .
Cricket
In cricket , the mixed team from the West Indies competes in international matches such as test matches or one-day internationals . Just as in rugby, in cricket "Ireland" is always an all-Irish team.
