Gianluigi Quinzi (born February 1, 1996 in Cittadella ) is an Italian tennis player .

biography

Gianluigi Quinzi was born on February 1, 1996 in Cittadella, Italy and grew up in Porto San Giorgio with his mother Carlotta, a ski racer and handball player, and his father Luca, who is the president of the local tennis club.

Career

During his junior career, Quinzi achieved several major successes. In 2012 he won the Junior Davis Cup for Italy with Filippo Baldi . It was the first title for Italy in this competition. On January 1, 2013, he became the first Italian to reach the top of the junior world rankings. In the same year he won the individual competition at Wimbledon without losing a set , after defeating Chung Hyeon 7: 5, 7: 6 in the final .

So far he has played on the professional level, mainly on the ITF Future Tour and the ATP Challenger Tour . In November he reached his first semi-final on the Challenger Tour in Guayaquil . In Zagreb , Quinzi was able to win his first victory on the ATP World Tour level in the qualification (wins in the qualification do not count officially in the statistics). Quinzi won his first Challenger title in April 2018 in Francaville al Mare . He received a wildcard for the individual field and played his way to the final, which he won in two sets against the Norwegian Casper Ruud .
