Dušan Karol (born May 19, 1983 in Jihlava ) is a former Czech tennis player .

Career

Karol mainly played tournaments on the lower class ITF Future Tour and ATP Challenger Tour . While he only achieved two titles in singles on the Future Tour, he was significantly more successful in doubles with 29 titles. In the 2003 season, which he was the first to contest in full, he won seven titles and was among the top 300 in the world rankings for the first time. Once he made it into the quarterfinals of a challenger. In doubles, he reached his first final with a Challenger in Prague in 2004 , but lost it in three sets.

In the following years Karol ranked between the ranks 400 to 500 in doubles and played almost exclusively tournaments on the Future Tour. It wasn't until 2007 that he had a small breakthrough when he won eight tournaments there and scratched the top 300 again. After he failed again in the final in Prague in 2008 , he won his first double title on the Challenger Tour a week later in Rijeka with his partner Jaroslav Pospíšil without losing a set. He was able to repeat this success in Oberstaufen and Tarragona . He continued to climb in the world rankings, reaching his career high in April 2009 with 128th place. This year he secured his fourth and final title in Freudenstadt alongside Jan Hájek . After this success he appeared in three tournaments and ended his active career after a quarter-final defeat in doubles in Palermo .

After his career, Karol was temporarily the coach of the Czech player Markéta Vondroušová .
